One of the most remarkable aspects about police officers and firefighters is that their dedication to their duty does not actually end when they clock out and go home. These individuals swore an oath to serve and protect the public, and they uphold it regardless of whether or not they are working.
A man named Tim Tawater is an outstanding example of this. Approximately five years ago, he risked his life by entering a burning house while off-duty.
Tim was on his way to a party at a friend’s house in Nashville, Tennessee when he spotted significant smoke pouring from a residence. Tim, being a firefighter, was compelled to investigate. He stated that firefighters are drawn to smoke in the same way a dog is lured to bones. The man observed that a crowd had collected around the house, and when flames began to shoot from the roof, he knew it was a fire.
When Tim opened the front door, he was met by a huge, fluffy bouvier des Flandres, a type of Belgian herding dog. Tim attempted to get the dog outside, but it was afraid and frantic.
Tim was forced to do the unthinkable once he recognized the gravity of the situation. He entered and then slammed the door shut. Tim’s safety was of worry to the onlookers as the house’s roof was about to collapse. The man then went out of the house exactly 51 seconds later, carrying the dog in his arms and it wrapped in a huge blanket.
After saving the animal, Tim got in his car and drove off. People were amazed by this man’s heroic act.
A few days later, journalists were able to find him. Tim claimed that he did what he did in order to save the dog and not to gain attention.
We could use more individuals like Tim in the world.
