Crosby was just a little pup when his owners left him in a park in the middle of winter. He was all alone and exposed to the harsh weather. He would have perished there, but thankfully, a person walking by saw the poor pooch and called animal control to retrieve him. When the rescuers arrived, they were stunned to see that his two front legs were severely deformed.
The young canine was brought to the local shelter, where a vet checked him. They determined that the condition was brought on by neglect and malnutrition. The limbs were underdeveloped.
Least invasive
The county shelter could not provide Crosby treatment as their resources are limited. A shelter volunteer named Dawn Justice heard about Crosby and his special needs. So she offered to foster the black pup and see what she and her partner could do to get the pup’s legs better.
Crosby was a bit hesitant and confused when he arrived at his new temporary home. But with the help of Dawn’s other dogs, he soon came out of his shell and settled in. Even with his deformed legs, he tried to keep up with his new friends.
But there was still the matter of how to treat the pup’s legs. After consulting with a vet about their options, they decided to go with the least invasive method. They were going to put splints on the pup.
A forever home
Even with his casts on, Crosby was still the happy and playful puppy he has always been. Dawn always took him out for walks so that his muscles would develop. And soon, the fast-growing pup was already trying to bite his casts off.
When the vet finally removed the casts, they were overjoyed to see that their treatment worked. His front limbs looked normal, and he could walk without any difficulties.
As Crosby was doing very well, it was time for him to find his permanent home. Dawn found a great family who she knows are good pet owners. The dog settled in nicely in his new home and did not encounter any more problems with his legs.
