Stories of dogs that have been separated from their owners are usually told and shared by people. While some of these dogs’ owners have already accepted the fact that they will never see their pets again, others are fortunate enough to have their stories come to a joyful conclusion. One of them is Kate Olson’s story.
Kate, a New Hampshire native, has rejoiced over the safe homecoming of her Golden Retriever mix, Walter. Last year, the dog escaped and was lost for several months. During that time, she was confident that she will find Walter.
Three-year-old Walter was able to survive for over a year on his own. And that could be seen as a major miracle.
Kate retold the story of how it all began. Walter ran away while she was visiting her boyfriend’s parents in St. Louis, Missouri for the holidays. The dog was supposedly out on a walk with her boyfriend’s parents, but Walter became so afraid that he managed to free himself from his collar and flee.
Kate, who adopted Walter at the age of eight weeks, decided to stay in St. Louis longer to look for him. She had been looking for two weeks and had come up empty-handed. It was difficult for her to return home knowing that Walter was not present.
But she never gave up. She told the television show Good Morning America that a part of her always felt she’d be able to get him back.
Kate persisted in her search for her beloved dog. She used social media to make announcements and even started a Facebook group dedicated to the cause.
Another member of the Facebook group noticed another post about a dog sighting and informed Kate. Fortunately, the dog that was seen was Walter.
Kate flew back to Missouri, where Walter was caught three hours after she arrived by a rescue organization. She described meeting Walter for the first time in almost a year as “very emotional.” She was quite in shock that she had to maintain her composure.
This dog owner was very relieved that Walter did not suffer any physical harm when they were apart.
