Tia, the founder of the animal rescue group Villalobos Rescue Center (VRC), was stunned when a Good Samaritan rushed into the shelter with a dog in his arms. She asked what the matter was and he said that the dog was dying. She quickly prepped the dog for transport and took it to Cypress Lake Animal Hospital.
Even the veterinarians were outraged when they saw the dog, now named Curtis. They checked on him right away and discovered a gunshot wound on the back of his shoulder. But before they could treat his wound, they needed to flush out thousands of maggots first.
Curtis was in a terrible state because someone betrayed him. The entry point of the bullet proved that he was running away when he was shot. Whoever did it to him wanted him gone.
The dog endured all the pain and discomfort. He trusted that the vets would do everything to help him heal. He found comfort in them that he fell asleep as they did their job.
The vets and the rest of the staffers of Cypress Lake Animal Hospital took turns caring for the dog. They kept him in critical care for days, and they were so happy to see him recover. They made sure he survived, but he didn’t just live, he thrived.
A few weeks later, Tia visited Curtis at the vet’s office. She was so glad to see him well and out of danger, but she was ecstatic to hear much greater news. Aimee, one of the vets, wanted to adopt the dog.
Aimee took Curtis home at some point so she could watch him closely. That’s when she realized that he was such a sweet and mellow dog. He did well with her son, and they became best of friends in a short span.
Curtis didn’t have to travel so far to finally find love. After leaving the clinic, he went straight to his forever home.
