The Benefits of Using Fruits & Veggies as Dog Treats
One main reason to use fruits and vegetables as treats for your dog is that you can control the portion size. Dog treats become larger and larger every year.
Another benefit of these treat offerings is that you know precisely what your dog is ingesting. You do not need to contemplate what ingredients are in the fine print.
Here is a list of fruits and vegetables (part two of a two-part series) that are good for dogs
Watermelon (Seedless)
Watermelon is handy during the summer and is excellent for appeasing your dog when he is hot. The bonus is that it is a delicious source of water (92%) to help keep him hydrated in the heat. Be sure to purchase seedless watermelon or examine it thoroughly to remove any seeds and rind before offering it.
Strawberries
Strawberries are another favorite. They provide many nutrients for your dog and can easily be cut up into small, manageable pieces for treats. Wash thoroughly, remove the top, and cut them in half.
Bananas
Bananas are high in potassium and fiber so you can dice and freeze them for a training treat. This fruit might leave your dog on the fence; try it out and see if you enjoy it.
Cantaloupe
If your dog gives cantaloupe a chance, you may find he comes to love it. He might investigate before actually eating (or even touching) it. Cantaloupe is a good source of vitamins and beta-carotene. Again, remove any seeds and the rind before giving it to your dog.
Celery
Several dogs enjoy incredibly crunchy things. This vegetable can entertain your dog while he eats it, providing many vitamins and nutrients. It is about the simplest you can get by washing and chopping before serving.
Cucumber
This is another beautiful low-calorie option. Cucumbers are also an outstanding source of vitamin K. For training treats, you may cut them in half lengthwise to quickly discard the seeds. After you have ensured they are all gone, wash and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
Pumpkin
Eating pumpkin benefits your dog’s health; people even consider this a super fruit. It is low in calories and rich in vitamins and other nutrients. Using cooked fresh or canned pumpkin is recommended, and dogs can also ingest pumpkin seeds in moderation.
