A family from California will always be grateful for their beloved pit bull, Sasha. The dog has been hailed as a hero not just for warning the neighborhood of a rapidly spreading fire, but also for placing her human sister out of harm’s way.
Latana Chai and the rest of her family were sleeping peacefully one night when Sasha, who was eight months old then, started barking her head off and slamming her body against the door of the apartment. Latana got out of bed to let in the dog.
The pittie burst in at full speed as soon as the fur mom opened the door. Wondering why the usually calm Sasha was making such a ruckus, Latana took a good look around.
The pit bull usually slept in the house with them, but the fur mom was glad Sasha was outside that night. Thick smoke was issuing from her neighbor’s house, and a fire was rapidly spreading throughout the complex. It seemed that nobody else was aware of the conflagration yet.
Latana rushed back inside to grab her children, but Sasha was there first. She had picked up the seven-month-old Masailah by her diaper and was doing her best to pull the baby to safety.
Latana took the infant from Sasha, woke her two older children, and fled the building. The mom of three then dialed 911 for help and alerted their neighbors.
Regrettably, the fire still spread to Latana’s house and caused irreparable damage. However, thanks to Sasha’s barking, none of the residents of the apartment complex were harmed.
Some people are firmly against letting pet dogs come too close to infants for fear that they would turn against the baby, but Sasha and Masailah have an incredible bond. They’re almost like sisters, having been born just days apart.
The two often cuddle in bed, and Latana even bathes them together. The pit bull has always watched over her human sister, and the blaze, unfortunate as it was, only served to show how much she loves and cares for Masailah. Watch Sasha with her family in the video below:
