Dogs with disabilities are still beautiful and adorable. However, one cannot ignore the fact that such disabilities may keep them from living their lives to the fullest.
Siggi is one cute and energetic puppy. But she was born with a pair of upside-down front paws. This means that moving around is a big challenge for her.
Thankfully, the Oklahoma State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital was able to provide her with corrective surgery.
Here’s Siggi’s story.
Siggy’s condition
The physicians at the veterinary hospital decided to take on the rat terrier’s case since they operated on a pooch named Milo who suffered from the same condition.
At 13 weeks old, the dog’s owners introduced their pet to Dr. Erik Clary. According to Dr. Clary, Siggi’s issue looked like an inherently paw-related problem. In reality, the problem was really at her elbows. The veterinary surgeon explained that such conditions would come out of joint for reasons not fully understood yet.
The findings showed that Siggi’s deformity in her lower elbow bones was serious. With that, Dr. Clary said that the dog’s procedure would necessitate a de-rotation of the limb.
Siggi underwent surgery. After the procedure, she was given casts and splints to help her legs recover. At a follow-up check-up, the specialists confirmed that the dog’s bones had already healed. With that, her Siggi’s splints and casts were taken off.
Siggi’s learning to walk again
Because Siggi’s bones had been fixed, she was ready to learn how to walk properly. She proved that she was quite a fast learner.
Dr. Clary said in a press statement that Siggi’s medical foster specialist had done a great job implementing her gradual rehabilitation. Now, Siggi can do what other dogs can. She can run around and chase a ball in the yard.
