When officers from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services found Tellulah, they could see that the black lab was injured. She was walking with a limp and favoring one of her front legs. She also had some scrapes on her snout.
At first, they thought that she was involved in a car accident. The injured leg might have been hit hard, and the scratches were road rash. But thanks to the concern of a kind lady, they discovered that the extent of her injuries was far worse. And they were able to give the sweet dog proper treatment.
In constant pain
Judy Sarullo, the founder of a rescue organization called Pet Rescue By Judy, came across Tellulah’s photo while browsing the shelter’s Facebook page. She could really tell that the dog was in pain with just one look. The very next day, she went to fetch her and took the black lab to see a vet.
There they discovered that a car accident didn’t cause her injuries. It was far more sinister. X-ray results showed that a bullet had gone through her front leg, and it went up to her shoulder and shattered a joint. Every movement caused excruciating pain.
Sadly though, there was no way to treat the injury. They had to amputate the affected limb.
Getting better
Aside from the gunshot wound, Tellulah was also treated for worms. After her surgery, she was moved back to the group’s facility where volunteers made sure that the friendly pup was getting her medication and eating nutritious meals.
Only after she was released from the animal hospital, the now three-legged is healthy and full of energy. Tellulah is very sociable and endears herself to everyone around her. For that, she was given the shelter’s Homeless Pet of the Month award. She is now available for adoption and would be a great addition to any family.
