When dogs give birth to a lot of puppies, there’s a chance that one or two puppies won’t survive. It’s usually the runt of the litter that doesn’t make it past a few days after being born. However, with a little love, patience, and care, these puppies may be able to survive.
A tiny puppy named Rebel can be considered as a miracle puppy. When she was born, she was only half the size of her brothers and sisters. She also had a broken leg and a broken tail. Rebel’s human family were skeptical that she’d make it.
Besides being the runt of the litter, Rebel’s family also discovered that she had another health condition that can endanger her life. After Rebel feeds, her human family found that she kept throwing it up. Rebel’s family suspected that something was wrong with her.
Rebel was diagnosed with megaesophagus, which means that her throat muscles are enlarged. The enlargement of the muscle tissue prevents the movement of the throat to push food into the stomach. This can result in aspiration pneumonia and malnutrition.
Thankfully, Rebel’s family were knowledgeable about her condition and started bottle feeding Rebel in an upright position. By being in an upright position, gravity helps food to reach the stomach and also prevents food and liquid from entering the lungs.
Rebel didn’t like being wrapped in a towel and held upright, but she eventually got used to it and realized that it helped her feel better after eating. Although Rebel was tiny, she always wanted to be part of everything. Rebel wanted to run around with her brothers and sisters, but because of her broken leg, she couldn’t.
Rebel eventually started growing stronger. She even outgrew her megaesophagus and was able to eat normally. She also started gaining a lot more energy and became one of the most vocal and feistiest compared to all her siblings. She also developed this behavior where she would bite the ears of her siblings and even the ears of the bigger dogs in the house to get attention and ask to play.
Rebel always got her way. Rebel may be the runt of the litter, but she grew up to be the most energetic. Here’s an adorable video about Rebel and how she became the naughtiest and sweetest dog in the house. For Rebel’s family, there’s never a dull moment with Rebel running around the house.
