When workers in Suwalki, Poland, heard the frantic, continuous barking, they thought something must be wrong. They followed the sound and found a dog stuck in a puddle of tar.
When they couldn’t remove the dog independently, they quickly contacted a nearby rescuer, Joanna Godlewska. She hurried to the area, and the sight of the trapped dog broke her heart. The nearby fire department members came to her aid and worked together to save this little pup.
Knowing how long he’d been lying there was impossible, but they knew they had arrived just in time. He looked frail, and it was clear he’d been just about ready to give up. But as they tried to get him out, hope seemed to rise in him once more. He understood that he was going to be saved.
The rescuers guessed that this dog was abandoned and that he’d been looking for a warm place to lay down when he found the tar. Then, when he realized what the spot was, it was too late to fix his mistake.
But regardless of the reason, they soon had him out. They cut the dog’s fur in the places where it was most stuck, and they loosened the rest with oil. He was finally freed from his sticky prison. The rescuers hurriedly brought him to a nearby vet clinic and treated him. They tended to his exhaustion and removed as much tar as possible. It wasn’t easy, but they got him mostly back to normal, with only a few minor injuries.
They named the dog Farcik, and he continues to get better every day, in both body and spirit. He’s now surrounded by people who care about him rather than being abandoned and alone. Soon, he’ll be adopted into a forever home. Thankfully, his future is looking bright.
