Hurricane Harvey was a devastating Category 5 hurricane that swept through Texas and Louisiana in 2017. The hurricane brought tremendous flooding and caused the deaths of many in its path. But it wasn’t just humans who were in danger from the hurricane’s fury; even pets needed rescuing when the Category 5 hurricane made landfall in August 2017.
When Hurricane Harvey made landfall, some storm chasers decided to brave its onslaught to track it down and warn people that are in its direct path. One of these storm trackers was Aaron Jayjack. A resident of Austin, Texas, Aaron decided to go out on an adventure to track down Harvey.
After hours of tracking down Harvey with his equipment, Aaron heads home to pick up his dogs and get them to safety. But before heading home, Aaron stops for gas in Runge, Texas. That was when he met an unusual hitchhiker.
While filling up his jeep with gas, a dog suddenly jumped into his car. The dog was wet, muddy, and was shivering. At first, Aaron thought that the dog might get his equipment wet and destroy it. But when he thought of his own dogs, he decided to take the dog with him where he is safe. He named the dog Cash.
Aaron wasted no time and posted about Cash on Twitter and Facebook, hoping that somebody from Runge, Texas, will recognize him and tell him who Cash’s owners were. In a matter of hours, Aaron got several messages telling him that they knew who Cash’s owner was, and they put him in contact with the owner.
Aaron talked with the owner on the phone and drove two and a half hours back to Runge, Texas, to meet Cash’s owner. Finally, Cash was back with his owner, and he was happy to see him. Aaron continued documenting Hurricane Harvey, and he is happy knowing that he was able to lend Cash a helping hand when he needed it the most.
