After receiving a message about an abandoned Golden Retriever puppy, Marcela Goldberg and Azul Galindo, both animal rescuers, immediately got on their feet to rescue the puppy. When they arrived at the location, they found the poor pup chained to a street bench with a letter from the pup’s former owner. Though it was a sad sight to see, Marcela said she wasn’t surprised anymore because of the rising number of dog owners abandoning their pups ever since the pandemic started.
The pup anxiously waited for his family to come back for him, but the longer he waited, the sadder he became. Marcela said that some of the neighbors noticed the pup brought food and water, but the pup would not allow anyone to get any closer to him. Understandably, the poor pup felt terrified, so he snapped and growled at anyone who got too close.
As they tried to gain the pup’s trust, Marcela and Azul decided to look at the note the pup’s former owner had left on the bench. They found out that the pup’s name was Max and that his owner did not want to leave him, but because of some reasons, the pup’s owner had to give the pup up. The owner begged anyone kind enough to adopt and take care of Max.
Using protective gloves, Marcela tried to approach Max, but the pup didn’t make it easy for her. Through a video call, she asked for the help of a dog trainer who knows how to deal with aggressive dogs. Thanks to the dog trainer’s help, Marcela and Azul cut Max’s chain from the bench and carried him to their car. Immediately, they noticed a change of attitude from Max.
He was obviously still afraid, but he stopped growling at them when they tried to pet him. Throughout the whole drive to the shelter, Max allowed his rescuers to pet him, and eventually, the pup calmed down. Max, who is now named Boston, is now in a safe place and is on his path to learning to trust humans again.
Marcela said that Boston is a changed dog; he is very affectionate, sweet, and loves to play with his toy ball. She added that several adopters are lining up for Boston, but they have to review all of their applications to find the perfect family for the pup. We hope that Boston will find a loving family who will never abandon him.
