Hope For Paws, a not-for-profit rescue organization, received a call about a small homeless dog that needed help. Mary Chatman, a kind-hearted woman who regularly contacts Hope For Paws, mentioned that the animal stayed under a car on her street. Founder Eldad Hagar and rescuer Loreta Frankonyte immediately met with Mary to secure the dog.
Eldad and Loreta met with Mary, and they planned their rescue mission. Mary directed the rescuers to the car where the dog sought refuge. After making sure that the dog stayed put under the vehicle, they went ahead and started their work.
Eldad decided to surround the car with portable fencing to prevent the dog from running away. He circled the fence on one side while he asked Loreta to do the same on the other. Mary also offered her help in setting up the enclosure.
The rescuers made sure not to startle the dog so it won’t try to escape while they set up the fence. Surprisingly, the animal did not move at all. They soon discovered why that was the case.
Once they finished enclosing the car, Eldad asked Loreta to try and loop the dog with a gentle snare. He, on the other hand, tried to coax the dog towards Loreta. Amazingly, they successfully snared it on their first try.
Loreta gently but firmly tugged on the snare to draw the dog out of the car. She realized that the animal’s matted fur dragged heavily on it, which was why it barely moved. After a couple of attempts, the rescuer finally pulled the dog free.
Eldad and Loreta decided to name the male dog Ziggy. Seeing the extent of matting on Ziggy’s fur, they wasted no time in bringing him to CARES, a veterinary facility. There, the animal received much-needed medical care and a well-deserved bath after spending a long time on the streets.
LA Animal Rescue helped Ziggy further recover through foster care. With no matted fur weighing down on him, the dog reverted to running around happily and playfully. Ziggy also found his forever home after some time, and now enjoys playing with his new fur mom, Patricia, and new dog brother, Fincher.
