Dolly, an adorable show dog, had an impressive track record in the ring. She had won numerous competitions, but when she joined the 2020 Westminster Dog Show, she wasn’t able to earn a spot to advance in the competition. For her fur parents, not winning the competition wasn’t such a big deal. Dolly was already a big winner for them.
Aside from regularly joining dog shows, this amazing Pembroke Welsh Corgi won the biggest prize that no competition could ever match: her fur parent’s life. Sean Sullivan, Dolly’s owner, was diagnosed with Stage 2 colorectal cancer. Before the diagnosis, Dolly already sensed that something was wrong. She never left Sean’s side and wherever he went, she followed.
Dolly acted as if she was Sean’s little shadow. Sean decided to go to the doctor as he became too ill. That was when Sean and his wife realized that Dolly had a unique ability.
Not all dogs can detect cancer, and this only means that Dolly is special. Sean had to undergo aggressive treatment for his stage 2 colorectal cancer. Dolly was instrumental in helping Sean stay positive as he went through months of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and surgeries.
The medical team responsible for the treatment advised him of the impact of his outlook on his recovery. As Dolly was giving Sean all his love, affection, and attention, Sean is confident that he’ll stay on track until he fully recovers from cancer. Although Ann, Sean’s wife, was Dolly’s usual handler, she needed to turn her attention to Sean.
Dolly, with the help of Sue King, joined competitions and won title after title. Her excellent performance played a vital role in Sean’s fight against cancer. According to Ann, Dolly’s win helped them take their mind off cancer. They are grateful to have her as she had done so much to help Sean recover.
