Brian Tippy, an English teacher, always had fond memories of having a furry companion, especially during times he needed it the most. He had a dog growing up and the experience he had of having someone always there for him is something he wishes to share with others.
And so Tippy’s three dogs named Ajax, Comet, and Murphy worked on to make Tippy’s wishes alive. All three of them are registered as therapy dogs by Pet Partners, a national therapy dog registry. And together with Tippy, they go to places where they could make a positive impact on people that need it or maybe want it.
This started one day when Tippy brought Ajax to the vet and Ajax saw a woman waiting for the ashes of her dog. Ajax instinctively went up to the woman to give his own way of help which was to let her pet him. The woman cried while petting and talking to Ajax but felt better as a result. It was at that moment that Tippy decided to have therapy dogs and make them official to allow more coverage.
One of their first visits was to Connecticut Hospice which Tippy contacted beforehand and was thrilled to have therapy dogs. They’ve been regularly coming in on a schedule ever since to bring joy to the people there. The three were always welcomed at the hospice with all the people especially those who were either not getting visited much or people that doesn’t get visited at all.
Having three empathetic and sweet boys come so often was a blessing for them. Seeing the furry and living form of sunshine makes all the difference for them.
The trio has also made some appearances at schools mostly at specific times when stress and tensions are high. Mid-terms or Finals week and sometimes even guidance counseling sessions seem to be better with the dogs around. With Ajax, Comet, and Murphy around, big sad or big stress doesn’t stand a chance.
