We always hear the saying “A dog is a man’s best friend”, which is true indeed. But while we, dog owners, try to be the best companion to our fur pets, dogs deserve to have doggie best friends, too.
Of course, we are their best friends as they are ours. But have you thought of them having a fellow dog best buddy? Similar to how we build friendships in school, they can also make friends in the park. shelter, or even with the neighbor’s dog who passes by the house every day.
Dave Schmidt, a young man who lived with his fiance, wanted to adopt a rescue dog. So they went to the shelter, noticed a sweet dog who leaned towards him, and they just knew he was the dog they wanted. They took him home and named him Dexter.
Dexter was a goofball and always wanted to play. One day as he was running around their yard, a dog wandering in the neighborhood saw him and went near. Since then, they instantly played and hung out all the time. That’s how Dexter met his best friend Doakes.
But their friendship had some challenges. When Doakes came by one day, Dave noticed that Animal Control was nearby. Since Doakes had no collar, Dave placed one on the pooch and hid him in their house until Animal Control left.
Eventually, Dave found Doakes’ family and explained why he had to put a collar on the pooch. He also told the family not to remove it. The next day, Doakes went to their backyard again, but Dave noticed that he didn’t have his collar on. Days later, Doakes was nowhere to be found and hadn’t visited their house to play with Dexter.
The young man realized that Doakes might have been taken away to the shelter. He knew he had to save Doakes and so he looked for him in the shelters nearby. He visited one shelter that said Doakes wasn’t there, but thankfully, in one of those cages with over a hundred dogs, Dave found him looking all sad and scared.
Dave adopted Doakes to give him a better, safer home. Now that Dexter and Doakes are reunited, they are inseparable and they fill the house with so much joy!
