Rescuers from the Fulton County Animal Services were asked to retrieve a dog who was found alone in an empty apartment. According to the neighbors, the dog’s family left her behind when they moved out. It was unknown if they were evicted. Nevertheless, the pooch was heartbroken by the desertion, and she was extremely famished when she was discovered.
Alone
The senior dog’s loud cries announced her presence to the other residents of the apartment building. They didn’t know that the dog, named Melony, was there. Many of them were shocked to learn that the sweet dog was heartlessly abandoned. They have seen her around many times before, and the dog was well-liked for her friendly character.
When Melony was finally rescued, she was taken to the local shelter. Thankfully, her days of isolation didn’t cause any health issues. So when the shelter organized a major adoption event, she was ready to get a new family.
Hundreds of dogs and cats were made available to the public. The event was a huge success, with 375 pets finding new homes. Sadly though, Melony was the only senior dog that was not adopted. She watched many of her shelter friends get picked that day and being left behind added to her grief.
Her turn
For the next two months, Melony waited for her turn to get adopted. Thanks to social media, she finally got a new home.
It all happened when Jennifer Buege, a resident of Union City, Georgia, saw a post by the shelter that was featuring Melony. A friend shared the post with her, and she felt sad for the pooch. She decided to visit the shelter and meet the unwanted dog in person.
Although Jennifer has never owned a dog, she has four cats, she decided to take a chance on the older pooch. She felt a strong connection with Melony.
The two became closer as the days passed, and Melony started coming out of her shell. Both of them are now happier with their lives.
