Jennifer Elizabeth Rivera, an experienced dog rescuer from Houston, Texas, spotted a litter of puppies inside the yard of an abandoned house. Quickly, she went to work and managed to bring all puppies to safety. It was a successful rescue mission, but she knew her job was far from done.
Considering the age of the puppies, Jennifer was convinced that the momma dog was nearby. So, she returned to the lot where she found the puppies and hoped to see the mom. She even tagged along with her senior dog, Hanky, and he was happy to be of help.
The rescuer had no idea what the momma dog looked like, but her dog knew which one it was. When they circled the property for the nth time, Hanky saw a dog by the side of the road and knew it was the mom. He whined to let Jennifer know they found the momma dog.
For a few days, Jennifer worked on gaining the momma dog’s trust. She offered it lots of food and waited until she knew it was comfortable enough to have her around. But no matter what she tried to lure the dog to her, she failed.
Thankfully, another local rescuer showed up and helped Jennifer set up a humane trap. They waited for hours, but at last, the dog was safe. They both felt relieved that the momma dog, now called Winter, was finally rescued.
Jennifer wanted to reunite the mom with its puppies, but it took about three weeks before she rescued Winter. At the time she got the dog, the puppies have all been adopted. So instead, she spent all her time prepping the pup for its new life.
Winter was so shy and timid at first, but as she spent more time with her foster family, she became confident. She loved everybody and she never gave her foster siblings any reason not to accept her into the pack.
Today, Winter is the happiest dog in her new home. Her adoptive parents adore her so much and her new dog siblings treat her like she’s been part of the family forever. She now lives the life she only dreamt of in the past.
